Thanksgiving did not turn out the way I planned. I came down with a double ear infection so I am on anti-biotics and am feeling like I got run over by Santa at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. But I am lucky I have good health insurance and I have a warm house and my boss ( me) is giving me the time I need to get better.
What I have learned so far: If you are at the Thanksgiving day table and the room starts spinning pay attention and get on the floor as quickly as possible. Yoga breathe and stay in the moment. This is temporary and it will pass and the painting will be even better when you can get back to it. It happens to everybody .......

Thank you for joining me on my Youtube channel. If you still want to sign up watch the video and click on the subscribe button.
In the meantime I am asking for questions that I can answer in upcoming videos. I am also thrilled to announce all of my current students have signed up for more teaching sessions so we are leaving color value swap outs and heading toward the world of triads. This is going to be fun. If you want to book a session? What's stopping you? There will be an increase of price in 2018 so get booked now ! My tag line is "Keep the whites of your paper white and your paints wet". Here is the reason for preserving the whites.
Please watch the video and hit the subscribe button at the end . When you go to my Youtube channel there is a separate video about why I say "keep your paints wet". But if you are already a watercolor painter ....I think you know the answer to both of these statements. Thank you for subscribing and please ask a buddy to subscribe too. I send you huge hugs for this. More later..... The new strategy is to mix my colors before painting anything. I am looking for the simple value shape shifts inside a form that is basically all the same value although it has two distinct colors.
I am looking to reduce things to the simple essentials of form, shape and value. What I have learned so far: Simple forms are harder to paint than more complex ones because of the lack of visual information. From a distance this apple works very well so I am on the right track. This video is about how too much color can actually cancel color out. Yes, there can be too many colors. That's where neutrals come in to balance things out. As usual I have a food analogy for this phenomenon.
What I have learned so far: I really should have become a pastry chef. I would do well on the decorating part but my baking skills are really not good. Waiting for sugar syrup to come to temperature makes me itchy just like watching the wheel on the computer when it is trying to connect to wifi. I am not good at waiting. No .....probably the worst . Yes, I was an elementary school teacher . How did you ever guess. I do love to make flash cards. The good news is you don't have to memorize these for a test.
What I have learned so far: Visual images have more impact than words. I enjoyed playing "school teacher". In my first career of teaching school I always tried to make concepts as concrete as possible because I had learning issues and when I was young my teachers got frustrated with me and would always talk louder until I felt like I was being yelled at. I never wanted to do that to somebody else. It is not helpful . It is better to "show" than "tell" . If you can. My tag line is " keep the whites of your paper white and your paints wet". Why do I say this? Watch the video to find out.
Please sign up for my Youtube channel and leave a comment or a question there for me to answer. I think you can "stump this chump" without too much difficulty. What I have learned so far: Patience. With a capitol "P". It took all day to load this video. Our internet services is very poor and something we have to learn deal with daily. It is a love hate relationship . If you try try and try again things might work . |
